GREEN BAY – Colburn Park’s new Olympic-size pool could be open for public swimming and competitions by the summer of 2018.
The Green Bay City Council voted 7-5 this week to hire Miron Construction to build the new 50-meter pool and borrow the funds needed to pay for the pool.
A date for construction to start hasn’t been set yet, but the building contract states work on the pool will happen through the entire year of 2017, said Dan Ditscheit, design and development superintendent for the city’s Parks Department.
“Construction would begin as soon as we can get the contractor in there,” Ditscheit said. “All throughout the summer season it would be under construction, and it would be open in the summer of 2018.”

Not having the Colburn pool open for swimming this summer is an acceptable sacrifice for the swim teams who use the pool for practice, said Amanda Tuttle, president of the Green Bay Swim Club. The club had been asking for a new pool for several years.
